The CIVIC Graduate Assistant position in the Office for Grant Initiatives and Partnerships supports the planning and successful implementation of Project CIVIC (Civil Interactions and Viewpoints for Interpersonal Competence). The CIVIC initiative is funded through a FIPSE Special Projects grant from the U.S. Department of Education and aims to strengthen civil discourse across UCF’s curriculum, student employment, and co-curricular programs. Students, faculty, and staff of all backgrounds and viewpoints may participate in project activities, including online learning modules, employee training and co-curricular workshops. The Graduate Assistant will report to the CIVIC Project Director/Manager and work collaboratively with the project team.

responsibilities of the Graduate assistant

  • Assist with planning and implementation of CIVIC grant-funded activities, including faculty development initiatives, student onboarding and employment coaching, and co-curricular programming for students to practice civil discourse
  • Assist with the development of outreach materials and online engagement
  • Maintain electronic program records (including confidential data)
  • Perform other logistical and administrative tasks assigned by CIVIC Project Director and Manager as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Full-time enrollment in a UCF graduate degree program
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate study in higher education, public policy, communication, social sciences, or related field
  • Previous involvement with initiatives or programs dedicated to advancing civic engagement and/or civil discourse
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong graphic design and social media skills

Graduate Assistantship Agreement includes:

  • Salary Stipend – 20 hours per week
  • Tuition Remission – Must be enrolled full-time fall, spring, and summer semesters
  • Health insurance

Work schedule Monday-Friday; Occasional evenings. This position has the possibility for a hybrid work environment based on project work, university policy, and supervisor approval. This is a Contract and Grant (C&G) funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.
