What is CREAR Futuros?
CREAR Futuros, which means “To Create Futures” in Spanish, is a peer-mentor based initiative designed to improve Latino student success at UCF. CREAR (College REadiness, Achievement and Retention) Freshmen/Sophomores will be paired with knowledgeable and highly trained upper-classman UCF Peer-Mentors that will introduce them to campus resources and offer insight on how to make the most out of their UCF experience.
While this program is designed to support Latino student success, all students from any background are welcome to participate in CREAR Futuros activities.

What are mentee expectations?
• Commit to participation in fall and spring
• Engage in weekly Mentor/Mentee communication
• Participate in monthly Mentor/Mentee professional development workshops
• Attend 3 CREAR approved networking and extra-curricular events throughout the academic year

My name is Andrea Hernandez and I am currently a Junior dual majoring in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences. I am originally from Caracas, Venezuela, but moved to Orlando, Florida in 2017. I am passionate about advocating for minority representation in healthcare and improve access to higher education for immigrant populations. I also love to read, paint and going to the beach.

My name is Sofia Angeloff Salerno. I am majoring in Biotechnology and I am from Caracas, Venezuela. I am part of the Synergy Scholars Program which aims to promote research opportunities and workshops to undergraduate students. I have develop a passion for research thanks to an one year internship I did at UCF’s Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences in Lake Nona. I am also part of the CREAR futuros team as a mentor. In the future I hope to go to graduate school and work for a biotech company. A fun fact is that I love to spend my free time watching movies, series, and documentaries! My aim as a mentor is to ease your journey into college and accomplish every goal you have set yourself up to!

I firmly believe that if we all shared our knowledge, the world would be a better place. That’s why I joined CREAR Futuros and became part of my university community.
