El departamento de educación, cada año, publica una lista de las universidades/institutos educacionales elegibles para solicitar esta designación, basados en los siguientes requisitos.

• (1) Inscripciones hispanas; (2) Inscripciones de bajos ingresos y gastos universitarios.

UCF (siglas en inglés), ha sido confirmada de haber cumplido con los requisitos de “estudiantes necesitados y de gastos básicos” en el año 2016, y someterá las figuras de inscripción del año 2017 en el mes de febrero de 2019 para su confirmación.

La inmensa concentración de estudiantes hispanos/latinos (27%) en UCF (siglas en inglés), nos permite participar en oportunidades relacionadas con financiamiento federal, las cuales están destinadas a optimizar la experiencia educacional de los estudiantes hispanos/latinos, tanto como la de cualquier otro estudiante de bajos recursos. Asimismo, fortalecerán la capacidad institucional general de la universidad.

Existen varias agencias federales, las cuales facilitan concursos especiales para obtener becas, [instituciones dedicadas al servicio de los hispanos, HSI (siglas en inglés,) e instituciones dedicadas al servicio de las minorías]. Las fundaciones interesadas en el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes hispanos/latinos, también podrían proveer oportunidades adicionales de financiamiento.

En UCF (siglas en inglés), aspiramos a ser los líderes nacionales en lo que significa SERVIR a los hispanos. Hispanic/Latino students have represented almost a quarter of all UCF students since fall 2016 – UCF embraced its Hispanic Serving Institution identity prior to eligibility confirmation by the Department of Education. As of January 29, 2019, UCF is now officially listed in the 2019 list of eligible institutions by the Department of Education.

Yes, UCF has already begun to pursue many federal funding opportunities that encourage Hispanic/Minority Serving Institution participation. Dr. Cyndia Muñiz, Assistant Director of Hispanic Initiatives, will coordinate UCF’s Title III (A/F) and Title V(A/B) grant submissions to the Department of Education with support from the Office of Research.

IPEDS data submitted by UCF Institutional Knowledge Management to the National Center for Education Statistics is reviewed by the Department of Education. Upon their review of UCF’s final fall 2016 and provisional fall 2017 data, the Department of Education has confirmed UCF’s eligibility. Dr. Cyndia Muñiz will submit the application for designation in February 2019.

The Department of Education publishes a list of colleges/universities eligible for designation every year based on the following criteria: (1) Hispanic Enrollment; (2) Low-income Enrollment and (3) University Expenditures. UCF is confirmed to have met the Needy Student and Core Expenses requirements in 2016 and will submit 2017 enrollment figures in February 2019 for confirmation.

There are several federal agencies that facilitate HSI (and Minority Serving Institution) related grant competitions. Foundations with an interest in Hispanic/Latino achievement may also provide additional funding opportunities.

The significant growth of the Hispanic/Latino community at UCF provides a culturally enriching environment that reflects our greater Central Florida area. From a global perspective, a long-term goal of UCF is to become Latin America’s destination of choice for co-innovation and co-development. Monthly Seminars: A common core of seminars is designed around specific themes relevant to higher education administration in general and UCF administration in particular. Combined with focused learning experiences, these seminars serve as the foundation upon which LEP scholars tailor the program to meet their individual needs and career goals.

Mentors: Participants will be assisted in selecting at least one mentor to work with them to further develop their professional knowledge, skills and abilities as a means of reaching their career goals.

Leadership Institute: The annual leadership institute, offered during the spring semester of each year, features a variety of leadership workshop sessions. It also allows members of the current class to present elements of their LEP projects.

Graduation Reception: A graduation reception is held during the spring semester to celebrate the successful completion of the program. At this time, each graduate receives a certificate of completion.

The UCF Leadership Enhancement Program provides leadership development opportunities for program scholars to gain career-enhancing skills and leadership experiences in today’s dynamic higher educational environment.

Employees from under-represented minority identities, such as women, people of color and LGBTQ+, who have worked at UCF in a full-time USPS, A&P, or Faculty position for at least three years from their date of employment by July 1 of the current year are eligible to apply for the Leadership Enhancement Program.
