Program Information

  • Up to 100% Tuition and Fees Covered at approved schools
  • Professional Development Opportunities
  • Textbook scholarship for those who live in designated housing
  • Mentors who reside in Metro Place Apartments community receive a housing stipend

Position Description

  • Escort community children approx. 1.7 miles to and from Eagle’s Nest Elementary
  • Participate in Soldiers to Scholars events and programs such as quarterly health fairs, sustainable garden, and educational field trips.
  • Assist with after school mentoring program

Qualifications Needed

  • Currently enrolled in at UCF, Valencia College, Seminole State College
  • Undergraduate Candidates:
    • Complete 24 Semester Hours per academic year
    • Maintain 2.5 G.P.A.
  • Graduate Candidates:
    • Complete 15 Semester Hours per academic year
    • Maintain 3.0 G.P.A.
  • Must provide up to 7 to 10 hours of availability (Some weekends hours needed)
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and positive role molding behaviors
  • Passion for working with inner-city youth

HOW TO APPPLY

  • Complete Soldiers to Scholars Application
  • Attach required documentation:
    • Member Form DD-214 with Honorable Discharge Status
    • Signed Letter of Understanding
    • Copy of current semester course schedule
    • Income Verification Form (if chose to live in Metro Place Apartments)
    • Two (2) Letters of Recommendations

Soldiers to Scholars Mentors

The Soldiers to Scholars Mentors are student veterans who provide leadership, after school tutoring, and community support to the elementary children who reside in Metro Place Apartments in East Orlando.  The Soldiers to Scholars mentors are student veterans attending the University of Central Florida (UCF), Seminole State College (SS), and Valencia State College (VC).  These mentors provide:

  • Afterschool tutoring and homework assistance
  • Events and programs such as health fairs and educational field trips
  • Escort community children approximately 1.7 miles to and from Eagle’s Nest Elementary School
