Student Veteran Association Meeting Updates
Heads up, this month’s meeting will be held differently than our usual meetings. This Friday, we as an organization are planning to participate in the “Battle of the RSOs” event at 3 pm Friday (03/07). Because of the event on Friday afternoon, we will hold our monthly meeting at 230 pm instead. We will go over what we have for March about Professional development, Volunteering Events, Challenge events, and what we as an organization will work for the rest of the semester and prepare for the fall semester. At 3 pm we as an RSO will together head over to Lake Claire to participate in the “Battle of the RSOs” social event. I encourage everyone who is free to attend as this will be a fun and engaging opportunity to get involved with the rest of the community on campus and enjoy some yard games and free refreshments! After the event at 6 pm, we plan to do an after-hours social for those who want to stick around a bit longer. Look forward to seeing y’all this Friday!
Programs and Events
The Office of Military and Veteran Student Success (MVSS) facilitates and offers a number of events every year for university faculty, staff, and students. Events range from FTIC and Transfer Orientation sessions to our Military Student Graduation Recognition Ceremony. Please see the listing of events below for information on where, when, and how to register. We look forward to seeing you at a future MVSS event!
Veterans Transfer Orientation Sessions
In cooperation with the UCF Office of New Student and Family Programs and Office of Transfer and Transition Services, the Military and Veteran Student Success hosts incoming military students after their class registration in the MVSC offices. The purpose of these sessions is to:
- Meet the full-time professional staff and student staff
- Learn the steps in using your VA education benefits at UCF
- Learn about MVSS Services and Accommodations specific to military students
- Tour the MVSS to discover your lounge, computer assets, and our state of the art study rooms!
Newly admitted student veterans will schedule their new student transfer orientation with the Office of New Student and Family Programs. The MVSS will reach out to the military students one week prior to the scheduled orientation date, to provide specifics on meeting times and locations. If you are a military student and have an upcoming transfer orientation scheduled but have not been contacted by the MVSS three days prior to your scheduled orientation date, please contact the Front Desk at 407-823-2707.
Military and Veteran Success Center’s Open House
Every semester the Military and Veteran Success Center opens our doors for UCF Faculty, Staff, and Students to tour the MVSS, meet the professional staff, and learn more about the various services and programs offered to our student veterans. Veterans Month Events – Fall Semester
During the month of November, the Military and Veteran Student Success produces several events in cooperation with various UCF offices to honor and celebrate our Veterans Faculty, Staff, and Students.
- Flag Days – Memory Mall
- Veteran Commemoration Ceremony (Collaboration with the Veterans History Project)
- Military Appreciation Football Game (Collaboration with UCF Athletics)

Veteran Education and Training Seminars (V.E.T.S.) – Fall Semester
This session is a collaboration with the Office of Learning and Organizational Development. This session is designed to educate UCF faculty, staff and students about military and veteran culture, explore challenges student veterans may face and offer tips and strategies when working with veterans. At the end of this session, all attendees receive a Veterans & Military Friendly sticker and certificate of completion. Veterans Resource Fair
The Veterans Resource Fair, hosted by the Military and Veteran Student Success, showcases various UCF Offices and Veterans Service Organizations. This event is held typically during the third week of the Semester. This is an opportunity for our student veterans and the entire university community to engage with the Central Florida Veteran Community based organizations. These organizations provide information on support services for veterans and their family members and how the university community (Veterans and non-Veterans alike) can participate in their organizations.
Military Student Stole Ceremony
Every semester, the Military and Veteran Student Success host this ceremony to honor the academic achievements of our graduating military students. This ceremony is held prior to each semester commencement dates. Graduating military student are presented with a Graduation Stole and are recognized individually for their achievement.
Family & friends are welcomed to attend this event. There is no charge for the event, but to receive the stole, the graduating student veteran must RSVP & attend. For more information about this event please contact Vet2Vet Peer Mentor at MVSCPeerMentor@ucf.edu
